Subnautica 2: How To Find and Escape Collector Leviathan

By Pranshu AryanMay 15, 20264 Mins Read

    Summary

    • The Collector Leviathan is not an easy predator to find, and even harder to escape in Subnautica 2.
    • This is a new Leviathan introduced for the sequel.
    • It is the first Leviathan to follow you even outside of its territory.

The Collector Leviathan might be the most terrifying creature in Subnautica 2, and for good reason. It cannot be defeated or harmed, only distracted. And once it has its eyes set on you, you can only pray that you are fast enough to get away. This guide will show you where to find the Collector Leviathan and how to escape it.

For now, we have only seen the Collector Leviathan being mentioned in Sparse Plains biomes. This is its primary resting habitat, so you should be able to avoid it as long as you stay away from this area.

This will be found at a depth of roughly 50-300 meters, which can be quite deadly since many players prefer to travel close to the surface.

This entire biome is nearly devoid of resources, so you should not feel the need to come here too much, unless you are specifically looking to encounter this gargantuan creature.

    Collector Leviathan Behavior Patterns Explained

This is a unique Leviathan class creature, and it behaves quite differently from its peers. The most noticeable of these differences is its hunting behavior.

Other Leviathan-class creatures you might have experienced before would not follow you outside of their designated habitats/zones. However, the Collector is an exception to this rule.

It will actively seek out and follow you once it has located you. This is a major reason this foe so terrifying to encounter while exploring.

It has tentacles attached to its body, and each has a unique function. One of them bats your vehicle around, while the other coils around you if you are unprotected. If you get caught outside your ship, the result is an imminent game over.

Fortunately, this creature is not impossible to escape. You can make use of the following items/upgrades to escape this dangerous predator:

    • Distraction Flares: The Subnautica Dev Vlog, which first showcased this creature, showed the Collector Leviathan being distracted by Flares. You can light one up and toss it away from you to momentarily give the Leviathan a second target to chase.
    • Fully Upgraded Seaglide: This vehicle can outspeed the Leviathan, letting you run away from its territory even if you encounter it.
    • Fully Upgraded Tadpole Submersible: If your Tadpole is fully upgraded, you can consider going through the Sparse Plains. However, this is still bound to be a harrowing encounter.

Regardless, even with the best upgrades and all the Distraction Flares in the world, we would not recommend that you approach this creature in any capacity. You do not really gain anything (other than a data scan) by getting close to this beast.

    FAQs

At what height does the Collector Leviathan operate?

It will primarily be found within the 50-300 meter range. However, the Sparse Plains biome is generally not very deep, which makes avoiding this height very difficult.

How to make Distraction Flares in Subnautica 2?

You need 1 Titanium and 1 Quartz alongside the Distraction Flare blueprint to make this item. This can also be used to provide light in caves and other dark locations if you do not have the light from a vehicle to aid you.
