Does Demo Progress in Little Rocket Lab Carry Over?

By Jorge AguilarOctober 8, 20254 Mins Read

Little Rocket Lab had a demo that was out before the full game. If you put a bunch of time into the demo, especially before the official launch, you’ll likely want to continue where you left off. Fortunately, we know the way to make progress transfer over, and what is needed first.

Will My Demo Progress in Little Rocket Lab Go to the Full Game?

Unfortunately, if you were playing the Little Rocket Lab demo before the official October 7, 2025, launch, the short answer is generally no. The developers have been pretty clear that the older demo versions just aren’t compatible with the full game. That means all those hours you spent perfectly setting up your production chains, fixing broken equipment, or exploring the town of St. Ambroise won’t make the jump.

You’re going to have to start a fresh save when you dive into the complete experience. Now, there is a small bit of nuance here depending on exactly when you played. If you grabbed the demo super recently, like maybe just hours before the full game released, you might have an updated version. Some players have mentioned playing the demo right before launch and still running into issues with the progress transfer, and a few even wondered if something like being on a different operating system, like Linux, was messing things up.

The developer’s official stance is that those older demos just lack compatibility. This really implies that if the demo you played wasn’t one of those special, forward-compatible versions made specifically to work with the final launch build, your progress is likely stuck in the demo. To be fair, this is a really common practice for demos. Early versions of games usually go through a ton of changes before release, which can make it technically challenging, or even impossible, to directly transfer save files without introducing weird bugs or inconsistencies in the final game.

So, for the most part, you should just plan on starting fresh with the full game. The whole design of the game, which focuses on building, breaking things down, and rebuilding, kind of lends itself to this restart, encouraging you to experiment and refine your process. You can also experiment with staying up late.

Why Can’t I Transfer My Demo Progress From Little Rocket Lab?

The main issue, though, is usually that the Little Rocket Lab demo is too old and just isn’t compatible with the full release. When developers put out a demo, especially if it’s released significantly before the game’s official launch, you’re playing on an older version or “build” of the game. This, being things like moving faster as updates come in.

As they continue development, they implement tons of changes, updates, and bug fixes. These alterations can mess with the core game structure, the save file formats, and even how certain mechanics are recorded. If the final game’s code is night and day different from the demo’s, trying to just drop in that old demo save could totally lead to unexpected errors, corrupted data, or outright game instability.

To be fair, developers really prioritize a clean and stable launch experience, and ensuring forward compatibility for every possible demo save across all those different builds is a complex and resource-intensive task. One player’s experience highlights this, as they mentioned sinking about 20 hours into the demo before writing about the issue, seemingly after the game had come out.

Even if they played the demo close to the launch date, if it was an “old demo” that hadn’t been updated to match the final game’s build, the incompatibility would still persist. The game’s developer straight-up confirmed it, stating that if the demo was played “prior to launch, then no, it won’t carry over – it’s an old demo that is not compatible.”

That proves the difference in version is the key factor here. For players on platforms like Linux, while that’s not the direct cause of the save issue, it’s an additional layer where specific build versions and system configurations might clash, making any potential transfer even more prone to problems in Little Rocket Lab.
