The Shiver Leviathan is not an entity you will want to encounter in Subnautica 2. If you spot this fast creature, you are likely heading for a reprint (aka respawn). However, that does not mean that escaping and scanning it is impossible.
How To Find the Shiver Leviathan in Subnautica 2
Unlike traditional Leviathans, this one does not live in any particular region or biome. It also ignores depth and will spawn based on a single criterion: the map boundary. This is quite different from something like the Collector Leviathan.
The sequel to the original Subnautica is in early access for now and has a map boundary. If you try going outside this limit for the first time, you will be hit by a disclaimer that informs you that the rest of the map is being developed. However, that is not all that happens.
The Shiver Leviathan spawns whenever you get out of the map boundary. It will instantly lock onto you and move at a frightening pace to close the distance. There is one Female Leviathan, surrounded by three Male Leviathans.
If the map size increases in the future (at full release or future updates), the spawning location, condition, and behavior of this Leviathan could also change.
How To Escape and Scan the Shiver Leviathan in Subnautica 2
Fortunately, if your task is to simply escape this behemoth, just get back within the map bounds. It will only maintain its aggression until you are outside the map limits. Once you go back, it will turn around and move back to where it came from.
Scanning it will be a different task altogether, and by our estimates, nearly impossible alone. Ideally, you want at least two players so that one can maintain aggression, while the other scans. Take turns to ensure that no one from your team gets caught by the Leviathan. The scanning progress should be shared collectively among the crew, so everyone gets it at the same time.
However, do not feel bad if you could not scan the creature. As of the time of writing, there’s no set reward for completing this scan.
