By Pranshu AryanMay 11, 20264 Mins Read

    Summary

    • This guide will cover the best Mega Chesnaught competitive VGC moveset in Pokémon Champions.
    • This Pokémon has a very useful moveset that combines Grass and Fighting moves.
    • It can be used alongside other strong Pokémon like Incineroar and Basculegion.

Pokémon Champions has a ton of strong teams that you can use, and one strong teammate you can consider is Mega Chesnaught. This Grass/Fighting Pokémon recently got a new Mega Evolution in Legends Z-A, and has now arrived in Champions to battle against the meta. Here is its best moveset, weaknesses, and more explained.

Although you can only have a total of four moves per Pokémon, we will strive to give you a longer list, which will let you be flexible while making a moveset.

    MoveTypePowerReason
Body PressFighting80Body Press will be your biggest asset, given Chesnaught’s high Defense stat. Body Press scales off of a Pokémon’s Defense stat, instead of the usual Attack/Special Attack.
Spiky ShieldGrass–You do not need to run Protect with this Pokémon, because you get something which is technically a better version of Protect. It not only protects you from all moves for one turn, but also deals 1/8th of the opponent’s maximum health back to them, if they used a contact move against you.
Wide GuardNormal–In doubles matches, this effectively acts as a Protect for your entire team. There are many moves in this format that target both Pokémon at the same time, making Wide Guard indispensable.
Wood HammerGrass120As you can see, Wood Hammer has an immensely high base power. This gets combined with the STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) from Chesnaught’s Grass typing to give you a monstrous move. However, do be wary of its recoil damage.
Poison JabPoison80This is mainly meant to be a coverage move, in case you encounter some troublesome Fairy Pokémon while using Chesnaught.
Drain PunchFighting75Finally, Drain Punch can be used to heal back health while dealing decent damage. This is great for Chesnaught, as you can use it to replenish the health lost from enemy moves or by using Wood Hammer.

Several Pokémon can draw out the full potential of Meganium. However, there are some standout picks.

    • Basculegion: Basculegion will be great at covering for Chesnaught’s primary weaknesses, those being Fire and Psychic-type Pokémon. Moreover, it is a great Pokémon in its own right and widely used in many high-ranked teams.
    • Incineroar: Incineroar needs no introduction to anyone who plays Pokémon in any competitive format. This Generation 7 starter packs a diverse moveset comprised of Parting Shot, Fake Out, Darkest Lariat, and many more devastating moves. These, combined with its Intimidate ability, make Incineroar truly fearsome.
    • Glimmora: Glimmora is a great teammate to pair with Chesnaught, especially given its great competitive team. Moreover, Glimmora’s three weaknesses can be covered for by Chesnaught, giving this Pokémon a lot of scope for running around.

You should watch out for the following types:

    • Fire
    • Ice
    • Flying (four times weak)
    • Poison
    • Psychic
    • Fairy

The above types will be Chesnaught’s bane in ranked battles. However, the moveset provided above should help you survive against Fairy-type Pokémon, especially if you use Poison Jab and Spiky Shield at the right time.

    FAQs

What stats should you focus on for Mega Chesnaught?

Chesnaught’s Defense and Special Defense are already sky high, so you can consider going into its Attack even further. Increasing its Defense even further with the right nature is also a good idea, since you will increase the damage dealt by Body Press. However, you should also focus on its Special Defense to survive some super-effective hits.
