The Young Mistress quest plays a big part in Phantom Blade Zero – even though it sits among a number of side quests that at any point of time you would have in your quest log as you progress Heartless Remnants chapter across the Village of Lu, this one is different.
Different in the sense that completing this side quest before taking on the final boss of the region plays a big part in whether you get a weapon or not – and, in addition, whether you get full value out of what is easily one of the most fun, frantic, and epic boss battles you would have come across in recent memory.

Starting the Young Mistress Quest | Ribbon 1/5
The first ribbon that you interact with, to begin the Young Mistress quest is just before the bridge that leads you to the Well of Three Puppets bell. The quest will have you looking out for these ribbons across the Village of Lu. They have been left behind by Mu Xiaokui.
Ribbon 2/5
Progress the main story till you reach The Temple of Blue Fireflies. Here, just ahead from the bell, you will see the second ribbon to interact with for the Young Mistress quest. Incidentally, this is in the same place you pick A Puppet’s Wooden Heart side quest, and one of the 6 Firefly Memory Flowers as well. This one has the memory of Mu Xiaokui urging Jade Dancer to teach her kungfu, as she is tired of practicing with swords.
Ribbon 3/5
After you have cleared out the Red Threads blocking the way ahead from the Covered Bridge bell, progress ahead across the narrow, covered passageway, till you come across the first grapple point. As you land on the next such passageway, you will see the 3rd Ribbon ahead on your left. In this, you reminisce Mu Xiaokui talking to Iron Fiend, and wanting to master his fist techniques.

After defeating Master Bi Yuan, the next Crane Bell that you ring has the 4th ribbon, and this time there is a full fledged cutscene, which I will not spoil here and let you enjoy it. This is an unmissable one – as this one falls bang on the main story path itself.

As you make your way to Beneath the Well bell, when you proceed ahead, you will see the final ribbon straight ahead. Interact with it, to complete all 5 ribbons for the Young Mistress quest.
Young Mistress Completion Rewards
You need to complete the Young Mistress quest to trigger the 3rd phase for the Mi Xiaokui boss fight at the end of Village of Lu region. Not just that, you also get the Wild Oriole Sword – one of the 7 weapons and Phantom Edges found in the Village of Lu, after the fight.
This one starts with a high base damage of 295, against 240 for most weapons. It’s special – Oriole Song, has you entering the Oriole Song state for 10 seconds, during which time every Triangle hit unleashes a blade wave. Also, it looks mighty cool when unleashing these attacks.
