In the Name of Art is a side quest that you pick up nearby the second Lantern in Chapter 5 of Valor Mortis. This side quest can be quickly completed within the same area that. This is one of those side quests that also adds a nice bit of context to the notes about Shrike, and their rebellion against Napoleon’s soldiers that you come across in the main story.
Like the best side quests in the game (The Scarecrow, The Lost Boy, and Homesick) this one gives a window into how Napoleon’s war (in this game) impacted ordinary families and individuals; and giving some neat rewards in return.
Here is how to start, progress and the rewards you get for In The Name of Art side quest in Valor Mortis Chapter 5.
Beginning In The Name of Art Quest

On continuing along the main path from the Wolfsbane Field Lantern, you will come across a blocked route. Unlocking this requires you to get down Nephtoglobin, and once that is done, you will have an Iron Marshall – the boss that you fought in Chapter 2, guarding the route.

On defeating it and moving ahead, you will spot a path on the left that leads to a locked cabin and an area filled with enemies. Defeat them, and shoot the Nephtoglobin to unlock the door.

Read the note on the table, which tells about the Shrike’s Appeal to rise against Napoleon and his soldiers. Go ahead to the first floor and listen to the blue Echo, where we see a husband and wife arguing about his support to the rebels.

Grab the Standard Firearm Parts, and interact with the painting next to the artist who looks to have hung himself, to begin the In the Name of Art side quest.
The painting slides to reveal a window overlooking a gravestone, and a Nephtoglobin. Shoot it to open up our path to that gravestone, which is our next point of interest for this quest.
Reaching the Gravestone

Come out of the main door of the cabin, and take the path immediately to your left that winds upwards. Look for a big, torn canvas lying on the ground. The path will be on the right of the canvas. This will take you to the Gravestone area that was visible from the window. Listen to the blue Echo, and the couple are discussing about their daughter’s death. She died because of the contamination. Go ahead, and collect the Basement Key.
Using the Basement Key
Enter through the main door, and open the one straight ahead using the Basement Key. Collect the Pistol Cartridges, and go down into the basement. Take the Legendary Catalyst Clot on the way, keep clearing the enemies on the path. Listen to the next Echo where the wife discovers that it was her husband who was aiding the rebels, which led to the contamination and their daughters’ death. Read the Note on the table which confirms this.

Continue ahead, collecting the Legendary Catalyst Clot on the way. Listen to the Echo where the wife is now threatening to inform the French army about the plot; which then leads us to a gruesome conclusion to this quest. Read the note to understand what happened next, and the reason why the artist hung himself,
This quest nicely ties up with the main storyline’s focus on the Shrike, and their rebellion against Napoleon’s army. The artist was involved and actively helped the rebellion, but at great personal cost.
You get 2500 Catalysts, and the Butcher’s Carnage Amber on completing the In The Name of Art side quest.
