Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are finally live, and the GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate Edition debate is already in full swing. Rockstar Games is offering two versions of its highly anticipated open-world blockbuster: the Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition.

While the $20 price difference may not seem huge at first glance, the content included in each package is very different. If you’re wondering whether the premium edition is actually worth the extra money or if the Standard Edition already provides everything you need, this guide breaks down every major difference so you can make an informed decision before placing your pre-order.

    GTA 6 Editions and Prices

GTA 6 is available in two editions: the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99.

    EditionPrice
    Standard Edition$79.99
    Ultimate Edition$99.99

The Standard Edition includes the base game and pre-order bonuses, while the Ultimate Edition bundles additional vehicles, customization options, exclusive shops, side activities, and cosmetic content.

    GTA 6 Pre-Order Bonuses

Regardless of which edition you buy, pre-ordering GTA 6 grants access to the Vintage Vice City Pack. This bonus package celebrates the legacy of Vice City and includes:

    • ’55 Vapid Stanier vehicle
    • Shore Court Garage
    • Vintage-themed outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia
    • Exclusive Tommy Vercetti-inspired weapon pattern
    • One free month of GTA+ for digital purchases

These bonuses are available with both Standard and Ultimate Editions, making pre-ordering worthwhile even if you don’t plan on purchasing the premium version.

What’s Included in the Standard Edition?

The Standard Edition is designed for players who primarily want the core GTA 6 experience.

    You’ll receive:

    • Full GTA 6 base game
    • Vintage Vice City Pack
    • ’55 Vapid Stanier
    • Shore Court Garage
    • Exclusive outfits and hairstyles
    • Tommy Vercetti-inspired weapon pattern
    • Free month of GTA+ (digital purchases)

Most importantly, you’ll get access to the complete single-player campaign featuring Jason and Lucia’s story across Leonida. Rockstar has not locked any major story content behind the Ultimate Edition.

What’s Included in the Ultimate Edition?

The Ultimate Edition includes everything from the Standard Edition plus a large collection of premium content.

    Exclusive Vehicles and Garages

    • ’95 Grotti Cheetah
    • ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy
    • Dinka Enduro motorcycle
    • Crest kayak
    • Shitzu Squalo boat
    • Paradise Garage
    • Special vehicle modifications for Jason’s truck

    Exclusive Shops

One of the biggest selling points is access to several shops unavailable to Standard Edition owners:

    • Rideout Customs
    • One-Eyed Willie’s
    • Sara’s Unisex Salon
    • Stock 305 Clothing Store
    • Electric Fang Tattoo

These locations provide additional vehicle customization, hairstyles, tattoos, clothing, and personalization options.

    Additional Activities

    The Ultimate Edition also includes:

    • PTT Youngin$ Compound raids
    • Classic Car Collection missions
    • Exclusive weapons and personalized variants
    • Additional outfits and cosmetic rewards

Rockstar notes that much of this content unlocks gradually throughout the story rather than appearing immediately.

GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate Edition: Which One Should You Buy?

The answer largely depends on how you typically play GTA games.

    Buy the Standard Edition If…

    • You mainly care about the story campaign.
    • You don’t spend much time collecting vehicles.
    • Cosmetics and customization aren’t a priority.
    • You want the lowest possible entry price.
    • You can always upgrade later if you change your mind.

For most casual players, the Standard Edition offers excellent value because the core GTA 6 experience remains intact.

    Buy the Ultimate Edition If…

    • You love vehicle customization.
    • You enjoy collecting rare cars and weapons.
    • Character customization matters to you.
    • You want additional side content during your first playthrough.
    • You prefer having every available feature unlocked from day one.

Personally, I think the Ultimate Edition makes the strongest case for dedicated GTA fans. A $20 upgrade for extra missions, exclusive locations, garages, vehicles, and customization options feels relatively reasonable compared to many modern premium editions.

Are the Pre-Order Bonuses Worth It?

    Image via Rockstar Games

Yes, especially because they’re included with both editions.

The Vintage Vice City Pack contains meaningful cosmetic rewards rather than simple consumables. The retro vehicle, garage, character outfits, hairstyles, and weapon skin all fit GTA 6’s Vice City-inspired setting nicely.

Even if you plan to buy the Standard Edition, pre-ordering before the bonus window ends gives you several extras at no additional cost.

Does Ultimate Edition Give Gameplay Advantages?

This is where things become slightly controversial.

Several vehicle customization shops and personalization businesses are exclusive to Ultimate Edition owners. That means Standard Edition players won’t have access to certain customization options, hairstyles, tattoos, clothing items, or special activities.

However, Rockstar has not indicated that the Ultimate Edition provides direct competitive advantages or exclusive story missions that fundamentally alter the campaign experience.

The benefits are best described as expanded content and customization rather than pay-to-win mechanics.

    GTA 6 Platforms

At launch, GTA 6 will be available on:

    • PlayStation 5
    • Xbox Series X / S

Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version yet, although many fans expect one to arrive later. There is currently no announced Nintendo Switch version either.

    How to Pre-Order GTA 6?

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, and can be placed through:

    • PlayStation Store
    • Microsoft Store
    • Participating retailers

Players who purchase digitally can also claim the free GTA+ month included with both editions.

Final Verdict: Which GTA 6 Edition Is Worth Buying?

When it comes to GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate Edition, the Standard Edition is the safest purchase for most players. It delivers the complete GTA 6 experience, includes all major pre-order bonuses, and costs $20 less.

That said, if you’re the type of player who spends hundreds of hours exploring every corner of a Rockstar game, collecting vehicles, customizing characters, and completing side activities, the Ultimate Edition offers enough extra content to justify the upgrade.

My recommendation is simple: buy the Standard Edition if you’re primarily here for the story. Buy the Ultimate Edition if you want the most complete GTA 6 experience available at launch and know you’ll take advantage of its exclusive customization features, vehicles, and activities.

Is GTA 6 Ultimate Edition worth the extra $20?

For players who enjoy customization, collecting vehicles, and completing extra activities, the Ultimate Edition offers substantial additional content that justifies the price increase.

Can I upgrade from Standard Edition to Ultimate Edition later?

Yes. Rockstar has confirmed that an Ultimate Edition Upgrade will be available separately after purchase.

Does GTA 6 Ultimate Edition include exclusive story missions?

No exclusive story chapters have been confirmed. The Ultimate Edition primarily adds customization options, vehicles, shops, and side activities.

Will GTA 6 be available on PC at launch?

No. Rockstar has only announced PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions so far.
