Fortnite has transformed Sprites from a fun add-on to one of the most important progression systems in the game. These collectible companions grant powerful passive abilities that can be helpful in-game.
However, getting these Sprites is a challenge on its own. I personally struggled a lot at first, as just getting these Sprites is not enough – you also have to extract them before you get eliminated. Even after extracting, you have to master them to increase their abilities.
In this guide, I have covered every Sprite currently available in Fortnite (along with the new additions), and the best ways to collect, extract, and master them.
All Sprites in Fortnite

At launch, Fortnite introduced 11 collectible Sprites, each offering a unique passive ability while equipped. Sprites are divided into several rarity tiers, with stronger effects generally appearing on higher-rarity companions. Here are all currently available base Sprites:
| Sprite | Rarity | Ability |
|---|---|---|
| Earth | Rare | Improves chances of finding better loot in chests. |
| Fire | Rare | Creates a fiery burst after dealing enough damage. |
| Water | Rare | Restores shields while standing in water. |
| Duck | Epic | Regenerates shields while emoting. |
| Ghost | Epic | Grants temporary invisibility after reloading. |
| Demon | Epic | Restores health and shields after eliminations. |
| King | Epic | Greatly increases Pickaxe damage. |
| Dream | Legendary | Generates random loot as it levels up. |
| Punk | Legendary | Has a chance to grant infinite ammo. |
| Zero Point | Mythic | Creates a Shield Bubble Jr. while healing. |
| Burnt Peanut | Mythic | Improves loot drops from eliminations. |
Apart from Burnt Peanut Sprite, every other Sprite contains a gold, gummy, or galaxy variant. They grant:
- Gold Sprites grant bonus XP from enemy eliminations.
- Gummy Sprites increase Sprite Dust gains by 10%.
- Galaxy Sprites provide 20% more ammo from ammo boxes.
Among all available options, I consider the Demon Sprite and Zero Point Sprite the strongest for competitive play. The Demon Sprite’s siphon effect rewards aggressive gameplay, while the Zero Point Sprite provides incredible survivability during tough situations.
New Sprites Added to Fortnite

Epic Games is expanding the Sprite system during the Gone Wild event by introducing several new companions and teasing additional ones for future updates. The new Sprites include:
| Sprite | Rarity | Ability | Unlocked by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boss | Rare | Increases maximum Health and Shield | Defeating a boss in-game or by opening chests. |
| Striker | Rare | Activates Overdrive whenever you mantle or hurdle. | Traveling to the Soccer Pitch and scoring the goal. |
| Fishy | Rare | Significantly improves swimming speed. | Traveling to a fishing zone and catching it. |
| Aura | Mythic | Grants Shock Rock charges after dealing enough damage. | Unlocked by opening chests |
| Grim | Mythic | Marks enemies that shoot at you. | Unlocked by opening chests |
These additions continue to expand the variety of playstyles supported by the Sprite system, from mobility-focused builds to information-gathering setups.
How to Get Sprites in Fortnite
Obtaining Sprites is surprisingly straightforward compared to earlier iterations of the system. Players can find Sprites through:
- Standard chests
- Supply drops
- Sprite Chests
- Eliminating opponents carrying Sprites
- Exploring special areas across the island
Sprite Chests are by far the most reliable source because they always contain a Sprite. If your goal is to complete the collection quickly, prioritizing Sprite Chest routes is generally the most efficient approach.
Rare Sprites, such as the Zero Point Sprite and Burnt Peanut Sprite, are significantly harder to obtain and are most commonly found in high-tier loot locations and vault Sprite Chests.
How to Extract Sprites

Finding a Sprite is only half the process. To permanently unlock it, you’ll need to extract it. Here’s how:
- Find a Sprite during a match.
- Travel to the nearest Extraction Site.
- Interact with the extraction terminal.
- Wait for the extraction crate to arrive.
- Deposit your Sprite into the crate.
Successfully extracting a Sprite permanently adds it to your collection and rewards Sprite Dust. Epic has also introduced extraction-focused tools such as:
- Portable Extractor
- Lucky Locator
- Extraction Site Booster
These items make collecting rare Sprites much more convenient as the season progresses. One thing worth remembering is that unextracted Sprites can be lost if you’re eliminated. Once extracted, however, they remain permanently available in your collection.
How to Master Sprites
Mastering a Sprite is the key to unlocking its full potential. Every Sprite starts at Level 1 and can be leveled by completing normal gameplay actions such as:
- Opening chests
- Eliminating enemies
- Extracting Sprites
- Completing various in-match activities
Once a Sprite reaches Level 5, it becomes mastered and gains maximum power. To permanently record that mastery, you’ll need to extract the Sprite after reaching Level 5. Mastered Sprites also unlock cosmetic rewards and customization options tied to seasonal progression systems.
How to Get Sprite Dust in Fortnite

Sprite Dust is one of the most important resources in Fortnite’s Sprite system. The most reliable way to earn Sprite Dust is by extracting Sprites at Extraction Sites or by using a Portable Extractor. Every successful extraction rewards Sprite Dust, even if the Sprite is already unlocked in your collection. In my experience, this makes duplicate Sprites surprisingly valuable, since they still contribute toward building your Sprite Dust reserves.
You can also earn additional Sprite Dust through Sprite Mastery rewards. Reaching both Tier 3 and Tier 5 Mastery milestones grants extra Dust, making progression with different Sprites worthwhile beyond simply unlocking new companions.
Once you’ve accumulated enough Sprite Dust, you can spend it at Sprite Dust Services terminals located at Extraction Sites. These terminals offer several useful benefits, including daily XP rewards, weapon upgrades, and additional Portable Extractors that can help you gather even more resources during a match.
Perhaps the most important use for Sprite Dust is re-summoning lost Sprites. If you die while a Sprite is equipped, you’ll lose access to it until you pay the required Sprite Dust cost. The amount needed depends on the Sprite’s rarity:
- Rare Sprite: 100 Sprite Dust / Special Rare Sprite: 4000 Sprite Dust
- Epic Sprite: 3000 Sprite Dust / Special Epic Sprite: 6000 Sprite Dust
- Legendary Sprite: 5000 Sprite Dust / Special Legendary Sprite: 10000 Sprite Dust
- Mythic Sprite: 7500 Sprite Dust / Special Mythic Sprite: 15000 Sprite Dust
Because higher-rarity Sprites require a significant investment to recover, I recommend keeping a healthy Sprite Dust reserve whenever possible.
