Misericorde is a short side quest that you can pick up and quickly close in the City of Orphans area in Valor Mortis. The good thing about the side quest is that the path to take to complete this quest is almost identical to the path that is in any case required for the main story progression.
In the end, it also presents you with a morally grey choice. This choice gives you a nice little option to pick a side – and by now you would in probability be leaning to either the Napoleon and the troops, or the Shrike and the rebels.
Here is how to start, progress and complete the Misericorde side quest in Chapter 7, in Valor Mortis
Starting the Misericorde Side Quest

Approach and interact with the soldier down the road, once you complete your conversation with Lucjan. This is a point that will come across naturally as part of the main story progression. The area to keep an eye out for is in the Shamble Street Lantern area.
When you speak to the soldier, he is in obvious pain, and requests you to end his suffering. He then goes on to say that it is the villagers who did this to him as punishment for not believing and supporting the Shrike. At this point, though, you cannot attack him with any of the weapons in your arsenal. We will have to cut off the Nephtoglobin from its source.
Progressing the Side Quest
On your way approaching this soldier, you would have seen a wall with the Shrike symbol, and some crates right below it. These actually hide the entrance to the next area to progress the main quest, and also happen to be the area to get to the Nephtoglobin.

Clear out the area, taking special care for the Swarm Mother attack as you enter, and the hives stuck to the ceiling. There is some decent loot in this building – a chest with Distilled Blade Material being one of them. After you are done with the area, you will emerge out onto the balcony.

Take a left, use the Formulation, and swing across to the next balcony. You will see our Nephtoglobin here. Shoot it, and now return to the soldier.
Do Nothing or End his Suffering Decision – Mistericorde Side Quest
The option to let the suffering go on, or to end it, will now appear for you. If you are leaning towards a more pro-Shrike walkthrough in terms of role-playing by all means, let the suffering continue. However, ending his suffering would be the more humane thing to do.
The game devs also seem to reward good behaviour – if you end his life, you get 3000 Catalysts and a Remnant’s Return. If you choose to continue his suffering, you just get the Remnant’s Return. Either way, once you make your decision, the quest is complete.
