Summary
- The Price of Coin Quest in Crimson Desert gives you the decision to pay a Special Tax.
- Not paying the Special Tax will not do much outside of a short cutscene, with no lasting effects.
- In fact, you might even want to pay your taxes on time to make a decent profit.
Crimson Desert has a lot of mechanics packed into the game. However, we recently discovered that you have to pay a Special Tax as part of The Price of Coin quest. However, this is not a bad thing, as you might think. Although you do need to pay a decent sum at the start, the quest ends with you making a good profit.
How To Start the Price of Coin Quest in Crimson Desert

Unlike most quests, this one does not seem to start at any one given location. Instead, it seems to have a trigger for activating. For me, it was stealing items worth a huge amount (the gold bar worth 500 silver seems to have been the breaking point).
After this, you should just play the game as usual, and while you are in and around the region of Hernand, you will get approached by an NPC.

Talk to this Tax Collector, and he will hand you a notice. This will be like any usual NPC interaction, which you might have done before, where they hand you a piece of paper with some information and walk off.
Open your inventory and scan this new document. You have just been served a fearsome tax notice, directing you to pay a ‘Special Tax.’
How To Complete the Price of Coin Quest in Crimson Desert

After reading the notice, head to the Hernand Bank. Don’t try to get inside, as the guards will throw you back out (trust me, I tried). Instead, talk to one of the guards at the entrance, and you will have two choices:
- Pay Tax (50 Silver)
- Refuse to Pay Taxes
Should You Pay the Special Tax During the Price of Coin Quest in Crimson Desert

Yes, it is very much worth it to pay this Special Tax. There is a simple reason for this. Although it deducts 50 Silver from your wallet, treat it as a short-term expenditure.
As part of the quest reward, you will get a Medium Bag and a Unicorn Glass Art that can be sold for 100 Silver. You can immediately turn around, sell this item, and make back the money you just spent, along with a nice profit.
FAQs
What happens if you refuse to pay the Special Tax in Crimson Desert?
There aren’t any lasting consequences for doing so. A small cutscene plays out where Kliff gets thrown away from the bank by the guards. However, you can just go back and talk to the guards again.
The quest does not fail, and you are free to come back once you have enough money to pay off the due tax.
Is this Special Tax notice different from the one found in the Extinguishing the Last Flames quest?
Yes, during this quest, you have to find a Tax Notice as a piece of evidence. Here, the NPC arrives at your location and directly serves the notice to you.
How do you start the “The Price of Coin” quest in Crimson Desert?
Unfortunately, this quest does not seem to have a definitive trigger like other quests. By the wording of the notice, it seems likely that it is served if your income suddenly jumps by a significant amount, likely due to stolen goods. After this happens, the Tax Collector will appear in a location close to Hernand and serve you the Special Tax Notice in Crimson Desert.
