How to Reset Progress in Tavern Keeper?
Currently, there’s no way to reset your progress in-game in Tavern Keeper. The only way to completely reset your progress is to delete all of your save files: both local save files and cloud save files. Here’s how you can go about it:
1. Disable Cloud Save Sync
- Go to your Steam Library.
- Locate Tavern Keeper icon.
- Right-click on the game’s icon and select Properties from the dropdown menu.
- In the General Tab, uncheck the box next to the line ‘Keep game’s saves in the Steam Cloud‘.
2. Delete Local Save Files
- In the same Properties window, click on Local Files.
- Select the option ‘Browse Local Files‘ from the menu.
- This will open the folder where the game’s local save files are stored.
- Delete all the local save files.
- If you can’t find the files there, try this pathway to find them manually: C:\Users(your Windows name)\AppData\LocalLow\Greenheart Games\Tavern Keeper\main\profiles
- Delete the save files found in the folder that opens.
3. Restart the game
- After you have disabled Steam Cloud Save Sync and deleted all local save files, relaunch the game.
- The game will now start with a brand-new Save File.
- You can now play the game from scratch, starting again with ‘The New Owner!’ challenge in Riverbottom.
FAQs
Will I be able to reset my complete progress in-game?
No. Currently, there’s no option to do so in-game. However, since a large number of players are asking for it, there’s a possibility that the developers might add an option to completely reset your progress in Tavern Keeper in future updates.
Is there any risk involved with resetting my progress?
Yes. According to the developer, there is some risk associated with deleting your local save files. One of the developers has mentioned on Steam that manually deleting locally stored save files might have ‘unforeseen consequences’. As the local game folders are not meant to be altered or modified, there might be a chance that some functionality of the game may suffer if they are tampered with. However, there is no guarantee that deleting local save files will do any significant damage, and even if it does, you can simply reinstall the game.
What if I can’t reset progress even after deleting local and cloud save files?
Ensure that you have disabled ‘Steam Cloud Save Support’. If you delete the local save files but don’t disable the cloud save sync option, the game will fetch the saved files from the cloud. If you have done so and the game is still displaying your progress, it might be worth it to try deleting the game, deleting all the game folders, disabling the cloud save support for all Steam Games, and reinstalling the game.
Can I reset my progress even after moving to the second or third Tavern?
Yes. The method detailed in the guide can be used to reset your progress, even if you have moved to a new Tavern. Simply follow the steps, and you can begin your journey from the start, armed with all the knowledge and tricks you’ve gained from your initial runs.
