So, if you were looking to snag Black Agumon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger, you may have run into a wall. Both Black Agumon and Black Gabumon were essentially exclusive goodies for anyone showing that they wanted the game badly enough.

They start out at level one, to be fair, but you can level them up pretty fast as you get further into the game. So while they aren’t the best at first, they will eventually be.

Trying to get Black Agumon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger is simpler than it seems. You need to know about one major hurdle right out of the gate: it was a pre-order exclusive. If you didn’t buy the game before it officially launched, you’re out of luck right now, even if you grabbed the fancy Ultimate Edition. This special Digimon, along with Black Gabumon, just isn’t available through normal gameplay or in later versions of the game.

Maybe they’ll drop as DLC later on, but for the moment, pre-ordering was the one and only way to get them. The moment you claim that item pack, both Black Agumon and Black Gabumon will be added straight to your Digimon list. They start at level one, but honestly, leveling up characters and digivolving in Digimon Story: Time Stranger happens pretty quickly, so don’t sweat it.

If you’re wondering how to actually use Black Agumon and Black Gabumon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger, here’s the deal: you can’t grab them the second you boot up the game. You’ll need to play through the main story until you meet the Mysterious Girl. This usually pops up about an hour into the game, a little bit after you get your first Digimon. Once you hit that point, you’ll unlock the in-game shop, the ability to check out your item packs, and Anomaly Points, which is where your DLC bonuses are hiding.

To claim them, just open your Digivice (that’s Y on Xbox, Triangle on PS5, or C on your keyboard). Head straight to the “Item” menu, and then go all the way to the last category: “Item Packs.” Inside there, you’ll find and be able to claim your pre-order bonuses, which includes the pack with Black Agumon, Black Gabumon, and a bunch of adventure sets. Once you claim that item pack, those Digimon will instantly show up in your Digimon list.

You can find that list in the “Digimon” menu under the “Setup” option. They’ll start at level one, but don’t sweat it—leveling up Digimon in this game is pretty fast. You can then add them to your team right away and even use them as your starters to digivolve them into powerful forms like Black War Greymon or Omegamon Zwart. It’s a great way to start your journey through Digmon Story: Time Stranger with a cool, unique team.
