First Light 007 lived up to its promise of a trailer announcement during this week, when the game was first officially revealed here. IO Interactive put up an impressive trailer at the PlayStation State of Play, and was clearly among the highlights across several game announcements and release date confirmations.
First things first, we got a look at the character who will be playing the titular hero. This will be an origin story, and so we have James Bond at his youngest that we have seen in media- at the age of 26, and part of the Royal Navy, a far cry from the tuxedo wearing, martini swirling super spy that we have grown to identify James Bond with.
In a press release, the makers behind the Hitman franchise had this to say about this marquee upcoming game:
For the first time, fans will be able to experience Bond’s early days within MI6, exploring how a promising 26-year-old recruit is forged into a fully fledged spy. Set against an immersive backdrop of global espionage, players will travel to exotic locations, encounter formidable allies and enemies, and navigate challenges with brute force, cunning guile, or charming wit – the choice is theirs.
The trailer shows M and his mentor John Greenway discussing the suitability of enrolling James Bond, who at this point of time is a rebellious but talented air crewman fresh off a daring mission in Iceland. We then get introduced to Bond trying out gadgets, including an Omega watch, with Q; a snap of various exotic locales, Bond engaging in combat, stealth, charming his way out of difficult situations, and of course, flashy cars.
We can expect more during the gameplay reveal planned at Summer Games Fest 2025, and the IO Interactive Showcase on June 6, 6 pm PT. The game comes out in 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S|X and Switch 2.
