A new game in the James Bond franchise has been officially announced by IO Interactive, with the promise of more details, including a possible trailer and release platforms later this week.
All this has been put up by IO Interactive on a new website, with this message on the home page:
007 First Light is a brand new James Bond video game developed and published by IO Interactive.
Featuring a wholly original Bond origin story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status.
On social media as well, IO Interactive posted a hashtag ‘Earn the number’; further emphasizing that the game will focus on the origin story for the titular hero.
All this activity comes after a hiatus of more than 5 years, since the game was first announced back in 2020.
For now, the only confirmed platform is Switch 2, as announced during the Switch 2 Direct earlier this month in April. However, it is more than likely that other platforms will get confirmed.
It will be interesting how the studio works out the game mechanics, what with the project being headed by ex-Ubisoft Rodrigo Santoro. The intent of the studio with this game is not just to leave it at one, but to develop it into a full-fledged trilogy. The success of this game will obviously be key to this. Going by the fact that the last time fans got to roleplay as the famous spy was back in Golden Eye 007, that came out in 1997, and is currently being re-released on the latest generation of Xbox consoles.
