You can soon play Hollow Knight: Silksong

By Jorge AguilarJuly 28, 20253 Mins Read

Xbox is making a monumental splash at gamescom 2025, and among the biggest headlines is the first public hands-on opportunity for the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong. What’s more, this long-awaited title will be playable not just on PC, but also on the brand-new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds, potentially leaving Nintendo Switch owners with a serious case of FOMO.

Xbox will be returning to Gamescom in Cologne from August 20 to August 24, 2025, with a massive presence. The Xbox booth in Hall 7 of Koelnmesse will feature over 20 playable titles spread across more than 120 gaming stations. The star of the show for many will undoubtedly be Hollow Knight: Silksong.

After years of anticipation, fans will finally get to experience a new demo of the game. The significant news here is its availability on the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, two new handheld devices developed in collaboration with ASUS. These devices aim to blend the power of Xbox with the versatility of Windows, offering a portable gaming experience that directly competes with the established handheld market.

While Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially revealed as a timed console exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, its prominent playable debut on Xbox’s new handhelds at Gamescom marks a significant shift, highlighting the increasing competition in the portable gaming space.

Beyond Silksong, the Xbox booth will be a hub of activity. Attendees can also go hands-on with other exciting titles, including Grounded 2, Roblox, Sea of Thieves, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 on the ROG Xbox Ally devices. A major surprise reveal is the first public hands-on for Ninja Gaiden 4, promising a “cutting-edge adventure.” Fans of Indiana Jones can delve into the base game of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in celebration of its upcoming story DLC, The Order of Giants, and even participate in a mummified cat puzzle competition.

World’s Edge will be showcasing the Age of Empires and Age of Mythology: Retold franchises, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will feature a new city update and aircraft. For those seeking cinematic experiences, an exclusive theater presentation of The Outer Worlds 2 will offer a deeper look into the highly anticipated RPG sequel.

Xbox’s third-party partners are also bringing a strong lineup of playable demos, including Borderlands 4, Onimusha: Way of The Sword, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, EA Sports FC 26, and even Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy XVI.

For those unable to attend Gamescom, Xbox will host a live broadcast from the show floor on August 20 and 21, featuring deeper dives into anticipated games, developer interviews, and new trailers. Specific broadcasts will highlight the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on August 20, and Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2 on August 21.

Gamescom 2025 will also be a major event for the World of Warcraft community, with a dedicated booth in Hall 8 unveiling the game’s next expansion, Midnight, and allowing players to try out the new Housing system. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will have its grand reveal live during Opening Night Live on August 19.
