Capcom put out a press release today to announce that Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak sales have surpassed the landmark number of 10 million units.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak was released as an expansion to the base game in June 2022 for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series S|X. Like in previous DLCs of other games in the series, this one featured a standalone island in Elgado; with a new ‘Master Rank’ tier, and new monsters, giving players added incentive to go hunting once again.

Capcom has gone to detail out the key reasons for this success, counting among them:
- Getting the title launched on multiple platforms to increase no. of users who can access the game.
- Working on brand recognition through initiatives like the Monster Hunter Bridge at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion in Expo 2025.
- Utilizing the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds to form an effective pricing strategy around bundling.
Monster Hunter has been one of the most successful series for Capcom, with Monster Hunter: World having sold 21.3 million units since its launch in 2018, and Monster Hunter: Rise 16.7 million units. These game behemoths have not only been a commercial success, but a critical one as well. Both these games sit at extremely respectable scores on Metacritic: Rise is at 88 and a user score of 8.4, and World is at 90 with a user score of 7.8.
The latest entry in the franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds also looks to have continued this legacy by getting a score of 88 on Metacritic and crossing the 10 million units milestone by Mar 2025 itself.
