Elden Ring Nightreign comes with 8 classes that have their own specific playstyle, and while you have the standard warrior/tank/ranged prototypes, one of the more interesting ones is the Recluse. This class, while being a spellcaster, does not rely on recharges to restore FP but on Magic Cocktails. In this article, we explain everything there is to know on this – how to make Magic Cocktails, the various types and the damage that they do.
How To Make Recluse Magic Cocktail In Nightreign
You make Recluse Magic Cocktail by using Affinity Residue. You absorb Affinity Residue from defeated enemies by pressing L2 + Triangle on PlayStation, and LT + Y on Xbox. The Affinity Residue dropped from an enemy comes in four types, depending on the element used to damage that enemy:
- Magic Residue: using Sorceries, or melee weapons imbued with Magic damage
- Fire: Fire Incantations or Fire-based weapons
- Holy: Holy Incantations or weapons that do holy damage
- Lightning: Lightning Incantations or weapons that do lightning damage
Upon absorbing this Affinity Residue, you also restore FP. You can absorb different combinations of the above to then unleash different Magic Cocktails – some which damage enemies and others which help heal your allies.
All Recluse Magic Cocktail Combinations

You can absorb up to 3 Affinity Residues, and so the combination of Recluse Magic Cocktail can either be:
- 3 residues of the same type (Single)
- 2 residues of the same type and 1 different (Double)
- All 3 different residues (Triple)
Magic Cocktail Type | Magic Cocktail Combination | Magic Cocktail Effect |
Single | Magic | Damage over Time to enemies |
Single | Fire | Causes Burn to enemies |
Single | Holy | Increases Poise & Damage Negation |
Single | Lightning | Improves Dodging like in Quickstep Ash of War |
Double | Magic + Fire | A Fireball that deals Fire damage to a single enemy, and ends with a fiery AOE |
Double | Magic + Holy | Use FP-consuming spells, sorceries & Incantations without consuming FP |
Double | Magic + Lightning | Equips a Magic Blade to slash enemies |
Double | Fire + Holy | Increases all allies’ HP, reduces all enemies’ HP |
Double | Fire + Lightning | Launches self as a Fireball that charges at enemies |
Double | Holy + Lightning | All incoming attacks get parried for a period of time |
Triple | Magic + Fire + Holy | Restores HP and FP for allies, while damaging enemies |
Triple | Magic + Fire + Lightning | Launches a Gravity Orb that pulls in enemies and then causes major damage to all caught in the Orb |
Triple | Fire + Holy + Lightning | Creates a Lightning Rod that deals Lightning AOE damage and leaves a Burn status for some time |
Triple | Magic + Holy + Lightning | Creates a Zamor Ice Storm equivalent, and grants Invulnerability to allies for some time |
Tips When Using Magic Cocktails In Nightreign
- Try to find spells of all Magic types – so that you can start building stronger Magic Cocktails, combining 3 different affinity residues.
- These combos are not quick casts, so unleash them when you are at a distance, and reasonably sure of not getting caught in boss combo attacks.
- The Recluse is not the easiest build to play the game with. So, best to save it after you have defeated the Nightlords with a couple of other classes.
Elden Ring Nightreign was launched on 30th May 2025 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One & Xbox Series S|X; and has had a pretty successful release, going by the initial sales numbers.
