Funcom announced today that Dune Awakening will have the option for players to host their own rentable private servers right from launch. This will give the players the flexibility of a variety of options, including controlling the number of players, access, and gameplay settings.
In a post on their dedicated website for the game, Funcom mentioned that this has been one of the most requested features from the gaming community, and then went on to explain the process for hosting a private server for Dune: Awakening.

These private servers will also share the same ‘World’ as the official server, with a common social hub. All changes that happen in the Deep Desert will also be reflected in private servers. The developers further went on to add that because of this nature of a shared world, the level of customizability for a private server will be less than what is otherwise the standard.
A detailed note on what concessions on control have been given, or held back to private server hosts is available on the Steam page here.
Available Settings for Private Servers
- Security Zones: You can disable security zones entirely, making all parts of Hagga Basin PvP enabled, or you can choose to have pockets of PvP like on official servers
- Taxation: You can disable taxation on your server
- Sandstorms: You can disable sandstorms, making them not appear on your server
- Name your private servers and control access with password
Dune Awakening launches on June 10th for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and Xbox One. The game is available from June 5th onwards for the Deluxe & Ultimate Editions. The game has been through a couple of beta weekends, and has generally received good and promising feedback on the overall gameplay; which is reflected in the game being among the top 5 wishlisted games on Steam.
