The runaway success of last year, Black Myth Wukong, announced today that the game will be releasing on Xbox Series S|X on Aug 20, exactly a year after it launched for other platforms.
Pre-orders for the game go live on June 18, and those who do this early get a discount of 20% on the standard and premium editions. This discount is in place till July 11, and is a no-brainer for those who missed out on the game. Everything about the game is known, so there is no downside to pre-ordering this game, like it can be for pre-order discounts on new games, where the game’s reception and success are not known beforehand.
Game Science had intent to bring Black Myth to Xbox, but were apparently held back on account of ‘technical limitations’ of the Series S console. Those now seem to have been addressed, as the game is launching on both Xbox Series X and S.
Black Myth: Wukong launched to huge success last year, hitting a peak player count of a staggering 2.4 million users on Steam, easily eclipsing other games when it comes to this metric. For reference, this number is some 0.9 million for Elden Ring. The game was also a big hit critically, and sits at a score of 81 as Generally Favorable on Metacritic, and a user score of 8.2. The game also took home the award for the Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards, Game of the Year on Steam, and the Best Action Game at the Game Awards in 2024.
For Game Science, Black Myth Wukong generated a revenue of $ 1 billion on Steam alone by Oct 2024, and has sold 25 million units globally as per a report in Jan 2025.
