On June 30th, 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 added a new feature that allows you to equip layered weapons, among other new content. Thanks to this, you can change your weapon’s appearance, using the appearance of another firearm.
In today’s article, we’ll discuss how to unlock, craft, and equip layered weapons. Additionally, we’ll also highlight the best weapon options to convert to layered weapons.
Monster Hunter Wilds: How to Craft Layered Weapons

You need to upgrade a weapon to the highest Rarity version to be able to layer the appearance of that weapon onto another. The same also holds true for Artian weapons – they also need to be reinforced to Rarity 8 Artian Weapons. Once done, you are now ready to layer weapons in Monster Hunter: Wilds.
How to Equip Layered Weapons in Monster Hunter: Wilds

After forging the final form of a layered weapon’s tree, you unlock the entire weapon tree to use for layered as you please.
The moment you upgrade a weapon to Rarity 8 on its tree, enter your tent from a pop-up camp or a base camp. Here, head to the ‘Appearance Menu’ and click on the option ‘Change Equipment Appearance’. Doing so will navigate you to the layered armour settings.
Next up, select the weapon you wish to make into a layered weapon. Finally, pick the desired layered weapon appearance, and equip it to your weapon. This can be of any level – it is only the weapon whose appearance you want to ‘layer’ on to a weapon, that you need to have fully upgraded.
Best Weapons to Turn into Layered Weapons
Monster Hunter Wilds boasts a variety of weapons, each excelling uniquely in appearance and stats. So if you’re looking to prioritize a weapon’s appearance and layer your weaponry, here are some of the best choices for creating layered weapons.
Arkveld Dual Blades

The Arkveld Dual Blades are obtainable by hunting a regular Arkveld. Its transformation into Chain Blades within Demon Mode is a tribute to the classic Arkveld weapon features.
Jin Dahaad Sword And Shield

The Jin Dahaad Sword and Shield is an ideal choice for an ice sword and shield. What makes this weaponry unique is that the sword turns into a spiked ball with a chain flail.
If you craft the Rarity 8 version of the Jin Dahaad Sword and Shield, known as Precipice Mateptro, it becomes available as a layered weapon.
Jin Dahaad Greatsword

The Jin Dahaad Greatsword is currently known to be the non-Atrian ice greatsword. And while its animation has no unique properties, this greatsword has a fantastic sheathing animation, making it a worthy layered weapon.
Of course, the parameter to transform the Jin Dahaad Greatsword into a layered weapon is upgrading it to Precipice Metallam.
Rey Dau Light Bowgun

The Rey Dau Light Bowgun is seen as the best light bow in Monster Hunter: Wilds. Its eye-catching design perfectly encapsulates an electrifying railgun while paying homage to the classic Monster Hunter weaponry design.
The barrel area showcases a continuous spinning coil while the entire weapon emits a thrashing electric effect, making it a well-liked layered weapon choice among players.
While these are fine participants for layered weapons, I feel the Uth Duna Bow will also be a competitive choice for weapons cosmetics in Monster Hunter: Wilds. It’ll be a craftable weapon from the Arch-Tempered variant of the Uth Duna monster, which’ll be available as a limited-time hunt (July 29, 2025, to August 19, 2025).
To sum up, layered weapons are fairly easy to craft in Monster Hunter: Wilds, but can be a time-consuming endeavor. Thankfully, it’s a worthy add-in for Monster Hunter players who’d prefer syncing their layered armour visuals to their layered weapons.
