Elden Ring Nightreign touched a significant number of 2 million units sold on launch day itself. This was announced by the official Elden Ring account on X, where it put up the following message:
Darkness fell over Limveld, and two million Nightfarers rose up against it. Thank you for your support.
While the base game and the DLC have set a high benchmark when it comes to sales, the fact that this is a completely different and new experience for the studio trying their hands at a dedicated multi-player, roguelite, three-player co-op, does make the number a remarkable one. Just for reference, Elden Ring has sold more than 30 million copies since its launch back in 2022, and Shadow of the Erdtree sold 5 million copies within 3 days of its launch last year.
Even on Steam, the game sits at a peak of 308k active player count at the time of writing this article. And this is at a time when the reception to this game has not exactly been what Fromsoft is used to, particularly for its souls games genre. The game sits at a 68.7% user score on Steam, and a 6.3 user score on Metacritic.
This is in stark contrast to the base game and the DLC. Elden Ring regularly finds itself on the list of the best games ever made, and the DLC was meaty enough to be nominated on its own as one of the best games for last year.
A few major complaints that users have with Nightreign seem to be in the zone of non-availability of voice chat, high degree of expertise for all 3 players to have a chance defeating the bosses, and an almost unplayable level of difficulty for solo. Against that, the fast pace of the game, the boss fights, and the well-defined character classes available have been pointed out as major highlights for the game so far.
